8. Elisabet Ney: The Radical Story of a 19th Century Sculptor with Kelley Janes

Listen to the episode here.

Elisabet Ney (1833-1907) was a German-American sculptor who created portraits of leaders from Europe to Texas. Her 19th century studio still stands today and is home to the Elisabet Ney Museum where her life’s work is displayed.

We are guided through Ney’s life and work by Ney Museum docent Kelley Janes. As part of a sabbatical year from teaching high school physics, Kelley is serving as a docent at the Elisabet Ney Museum in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Austin, Texas while writing a collection of essays for a young adult audience about astrophysics, climate change, life and love.

The Elisabet Ney Museum is located at 304 E 44th St, Austin, TX 78751. Museum hours are 12-5, Wed-Sun. Find more information on their website.
