Like the Sun at Midday

Stories and Teachings of a Hippie Elder

Deep in the Hawaiian jungle...

My debut book, Like the Sun at Midday, tells the story of my year in an untamed corner of Hawaii. At 20, I went to the remote islands seeking adventure, and something magnificent I couldn't quite name. On the island, I met Whit—50 years my senior and as revolutionary as they come. Without attempting to arrive at an answer, us two unlikely friends sat together for many months, asking: What is the truth? And how can we live in deeper alignment with it?

Wild stories and nuggets of wisdom from Whit's life as one of the original hippies of the counterculture movement generously poured through him. Whit became a gateway for me to unconventional paths of self-discovery and healing.

“Amy’s story of adventure, introspection and discovery will inspire you to be more thoughtful and curious about the world around you.

Through chronicling her interactions with Whit and others, she evokes poignant questions about our own journeys that will leave you feeling more self-aware and quite frankly, more alive. Her inviting and enthralling writing style made this book such an enjoyable read. I couldn’t put it down!”
